Our research has allowed us to delve deeper into the subject of identity through language. We have learned a lot about how our interviewees try and understand other's cultures and what we discovered was extremely captivating. Specifically from Oscar Estrada's interview we learned that speaking a minority language is actually very helpful when you are an international student because people are very curious about your culture and identity and how they can learn from minority speakers as well. Also we have learned, that at least socially, there is minimal judgement of minority speakers and their identity is only helped by them speaking a minority language.
We would like to further pursue another aspect of their identities and see what affect being of minority descent has had on our interviewees from a more global perspective. Our interviews capture the social perspective and how language shaped their personal identities, but we are also fascinated by what possible stratifications come out of being of minority descent. Since all of our interviewees had relatively positive experiences socially we are intrigued by if there have been any difficulties in other aspects of their lives.
